What an amazingly inspirational and positive week it has been. Many of you know that Joey and I are headed to South Africa to see the work that has been going on in person. We leave Saturday and are so excited! We were brainstorming some cool ways to pack as much goodness into our two weeks by making our contribution to the AIDS orphans houses as impactful as possible.

Joey had the amazing idea to involve the great people he works with at Rokkan to each donate a small amount of money (about $8) to buy the second water tank we’ve been trying to get for the second AIDS orphans house in Sada. He sent out a short email, explaining the project and what it would mean for these kids, and the response was incredible. In less than 30 minutes the amazing people at Rokkan donated half of the money for the water tank and over the next day they raised enough for the entire thing! Now we will be able to purchase and deliver a water tank to the second house when we are there. It was a truly generous and beautiful moment to see so many people give to make the lives of the children more stable and secure.

Then, another incredibly generous thing happened. Our wonderful friends threw us a small “Going to Africa” party and at the end handed us an envelope with enough money in it to buy the 12 AIDS orphans fleeces to get through the winter warmly. Now, because of the generosity of a group New Yorkers, 12 kids in South Africa will be warm this winter and we get to see their smiling faces when we bring them the gifts. I can’t wait!

This week has been an incredible sign of how generous people are. Even in a busy city like New York, people took time out of their lives and some money out of their wallets to think about and tangibly help those in need. Thanks so much to all who have donated! We will be posting pictures of the water tank and the fleeces soon! And the next time you hear from me, it will be from Africa!
