We are an organization with one purpose, which is to make a positive change in our world by supplying those in need with basic necessities of life, like food, water and shelter. While that is the basic idea of what we are doing there is a lot more happening! Please take a moment to learn more about us. Arron Spencer
Tennis has played a major part in Arron’s life. He has been competitive on a national level from his early teenage years through his college playing career at the University of Oregon. For him it has been much more than a sport. It has created a deep rooted discipline and commitment, and immense leadership skills that have made it possible for him to become a sought after tennis coach in South Carolina and in Eugene, Oregon where he has shaped the talent of the future.
Through high school and college Arron was involved in multiple community service activities for organizations like the Children’s Miracle Network. The most notable experience came when he was serving as the VP of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). SAAC was involved with a project for Habitat for Humanity. He was amazed “to see the power of so many people with different backgrounds, skills, and giving levels come together. The realization that a combination of small, individual pieces could unite to make such a powerful impact, and then being personally a part of that mixture, is something that I will never forget.”
Arron eventually married Lauren Vehorn and learned the story of her father, and how he picked up the family and moved to South Africa to serve those in need. The influence of his new father-in-law’s story and his previous service primed Arron’s heart for the moment when he was approached to join The Positive Change Project. The timing was perfect for Arron to become a founding member, and he is now employing his leadership skills as the organization’s administrator.
Joey Dehnert
Like Arron, Joey has roots in Oregon. While growing up in Eugene he traveled seasonally to San Diego to visit his Dad, and he currently lives in Brooklyn, NY with his wife Jill. From 5 years old through high school sports taught him countless lessons in teamwork and leadership. Experiences like his role as team captain of his senior Lacrosse team helped Joey at an early age learn how to successfully decision make and motivate people towards a goal. These lessons have carried on into his professional life where Joey has run a web company for the last three years, and now works at a digital ad agency in Manhattan.
Joey has given service to organizations like the Children’s Miracle Network, but the most influential experience came on the road to a fishing trip deep into Baja, Mexico. “My dad loaded our boat with toys and clothes that weren’t being used any more. Once we were across the border we drove into a neighborhood and parked in front of a shoddy fence. Out of a 2×4 and tarp tent came at least 5 growth stunted children and their mother. When we uncovered our boat and started handing out the toys and clothes additional kids came from everywhere and were ecstatic to receive all of our “useless” stuff. Their life contrasted with mine in a devastating way, which changed me forever, and is my constant reminder and inspiration to help others in need.”
Post college, Joey was drawn to the fast pace and ever changing life of business on the internet. For the last four years Joey has been eating and breathing internet marketing whether it’s increasing a local business’ return on investment 250% or working for companies doing $200 million in annual revenue. Over time Joey felt the call to serve but struggled with finding the right fit for his talents until approached with the idea of using the internet to move the masses towards the common goal of making a positive change. It all came into focus for Joey and he is now the lead of the marketing and promotion team for The Positive Change Project and founding board member.
